Trendon Watford drops 38 points at City of Palms

Mountain Brook (A.L) senior Trendon Watford put on an incredible 38 point performance in a 72-67 win over IMG Academy (FL). Watford is very familiar with a lot of the players on IMG Academy and knew he had to give it his all to lead his team to victory.

“I know a lot of these guys that we play AAU with and I knew it was a bigtime matchup for me,” Watford said. “I knew I had to play well this game so I went out there and everything just came to me.”

Watford sees his team taking a different approach to big games like this than most teams would.

“I feel like we play differently with how we pressure a lot of teams and find a lot of teams weaknesses,” said Watford. “That is what we did tonight and we knew as long as we didn’t let those guys get to the paint we’d be alright.”

His ranking varies based on what sites you are looking at, but Watford thinks he does enough on the floor to be ranked higher than he is.

“I feel like I can do everything and I came out here and showed that,” Watford said. “I feel like some things should definitely shake around and I think that I’m making people wake up.”

He recently cut his list to Alabama, Indiana, LSU and Memphis. He broke down what he liked about each of these schools for Prep Circuit.

Memphis: “Memphis is a new coaching staff with guys I know in Penny Hardaway and Mike Miller,” he said. “I have a strong relationship with those guys and I like what they are doing.”

Indiana: “Indiana, obviously my brother played there so there’s some legacy there,” he said. “I also just really like what Archie Miller is doing.”

LSU: “With LSU they have Nazreon Reid there this year and they have a lot of great players,” Watford said. “I just like what Coach Wade and his staff are doing.”

Alabama: “Alabama is the hometown school and I love what they are doing,” he said. “They had Colin Sexton last year and made the NCAA tournament. They also have a few guys that could make it to the next level this year so I like them.”
