There are few class of 2019 prospects that have blown up the way NJ Playaz power forward Zach Freemantle has this summer. Entering this AAU season he only held offers from Columbia and Monmouth. After performing well, he added offers from the likes of Xavier, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, VCU, Saint Joseph’s, Pittsburgh, Northwestern and more. He caught up with Prep Circuit on his rise this season and more.
Q: You blew up this AAU season with the NJ Playaz. What did you do in order to perform at this level?
A: “I’ve just been working a lot on shooting, my athleticism, strength and things like that, which has allowed me to expand my game,” Freemantle said. “I’ve just been working on being the most complete player I can be.”
Q: Which schools have been recruiting you the hardest?
A: “Mostly it’s been Xavier, Saint Joseph’s, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Penn State, Northwestern and Princeton,” he said.
Q: Xavier was one of the first high major programs to offer you. What do you like about them?
A: “It’s just the history of the program with them being such a winning school,” said Freemantle. “They have such a good culture there so that’s a really good option.”
Q: Even though Georgia Tech offered you last week, they have already made you a priority. What do you like about the Yellow Jackets?
A: “They are in the ACC, which is a great conference,” he said. “It’s a great school with a great level of basketball so it’s the best of both worlds there.”
Q: Saint Joseph’s has been recruiting you for a long time. What’s your relationship like with them?
A: “With them I probably have the best relationship with the coaching staff,” Freemantle said. “It’s the one of the two schools that I have visited so far. They have been after me for the longest.”
Q: Another high academic school in Northwestern is on you. What’s intriguing about them?
A: “They are another school with the best of both worlds,” he said. “It’s big ten basketball and it’s a great academic school that’s pretty much on the level of Ivy leagues.”
Q: Are you remaining open with your recruitment or do you plan on cutting your list soon?
A: “I’m still open right now, I plan on cutting my list down later and try to make a decision before the high school season starts,” he said.
Q: Are there any schools that you plan on visiting in the near future?
A: “I plan on visiting Boston College and Xavier in the future,” said Freemantle.
