Class of 2019 big man Will Baker has had multiple schools in to see him this week at the Under Armour Association Finals. Prep Circuit caught up with him to discuss the latest with his recruitment.
Q: You took that visit to UCLA. What was that experience like and what’s their message been to you?
A: “You know I really like Coach Alford, Coach Broussard and all of the other coaches,” said Baker. “Their message is that I’d be a good fit for their program. I can show what I can be there with just how I can play inside and out. I think I’d be a good fit in their system.”
Q: Coach Shaka Smart and Coach Darrin Horn were here to see you. Obviously that’s close to home so what’s your thoughts on Texas and what have they been saying to you?
A: “You know I really like Coach Horn and Shaka,” he said. “They’re great guys and I have good relationships with them. They tell me I can play inside and out and I’d be a good fit their as well. They have produced first round picks for big men in the past two years so I can be another one.”
Q: What stands out about Texas A&M?
A: “I really like Andy [Kennedy], Amir [Abdur-Rahim] left for Georgia, but I still have great relationships with other coaches,” Baker said. “I think I’d be that center piece in their program if I go there. I’ve played with Sahvir [Wheeler], I really like him a lot.”
Q: With Georgetown as a big guy what is it like to have Patrick Ewing recruiting you?
A: “It’s incredible, he called me and it was surreal getting to talk to him over the phone,” Baker said. “I think it’s really cool that they are recruiting me and they are a big man school as well. They use their big men and play through them, which is important to me.”
Q: When do you want to narrow things down a little more?
A: “I’d say probably sometime in the beginning of August,” he said. “I don’t know how many schools are going to be on that list, but we’ll see.”
‘19 Joel Kabimba & ‘20 Ben Li from Middleburg Academy (VA) are both on unofficial visits to LIU-Brooklyn.
Daryl Banks, a class of 2019 PG from The Patrick School (NJ), just committed to St. Peter's.
