A.J. Griffin did not disappoint on Sunday with two impressive games against Archbishop Wood and Roselle Catholic. Scoring 20 points, Griffin led his team to a 71-65 win over Archbishop Wood. In the last game of the event with his teammate R.J. Davis sitting out, Griffin stepped up with 23 points against one of the best teams in the nation in Roselle Catholic.
Trey Patterson has had quite the fall at Rutgers Prep with his play during open gym and now at the Northeast Fall Invitational. He started things out scoring 16 points in a solid win over the Haverford School, but really shined against St. Thomas Aquinas with 25 points. Standing 6’7, Patterson has a great deal of versatility with how he handles the ball and his improved jump shot.
Jalen Duren didn’t disappoint with two strong games against Roselle Catholic and Gill St. Bernard’s. Roman Catholic did take a large margin loss to Roselle Catholic, but Duren still came to play on the offensive end. In a tough match up against Gill St. Bernard’s he scored 20 points and was a force on both ends. Duren definitely left people impressed on Saturday night.
Class of 2022 guard continues to play well on big stages as he dropped 25 points in both games this past weekend. He led his team to two wins over University and Union Catholic. Armstrong has a real knack for scoring the ball and will receive more attention this high school season.
Sophomore guard Zion Cruz got off to a hot start on Sunday with a 29 point performance in an overtime victory over Archbishop Wood. Cruz was dynamic off the bounce as he got to his spots with ease. The Hudson Catholic prospect also continues to make strides with his jump shot.
If there was an MVP award for the Northeast Fall Invitational, Will Richardson would be in contention. Richardson led Bergen to a 2-0 record against Trenton Catholic and Archbishop Carroll. Richardson scored 25 points against TCA and 26 points against Carroll. Richardson utilized his crafty handle and got to the basket with ease and consistently knocked down shots.
The Haverford School has quite the prospect on their hands in sophomore guard Jameel Brown. Brown was really impressive on the scoring end with 20 points against Archbishop Carroll and 22 points against Rutgers Prep, but 2022 prospect did more than that. He did a great job getting his teammates involved as well and led his team in running a sound offense.
VCU commit Jamir Watkins left his mark on the Northeast Fall Invitational. Watkins scored started things out with a 15 point performance in a win over Elizabeth followed up with a 29 point game against a tough opponent in Bergen Catholic. When Watkins shoots the ball the way he did against Bergen Catholic, he is very hard to stop.
