St. John’s has landed its first commitment for the class of 2019 in Johnathan McGriff from Bishop McNamara (MD). McGriff is one of the most flashy point guards in his class with his elite speed and tight handle. He caught up with Prep Circuit to discuss his commitment.
Q: What school have you chosen?
A: “The school that I have chosen is St. John’s University.”
Q: What were some of your main reasons that you decided on them?
A: “The main reason was that when I went up to the school to see it for some reason it felt like home. Mike Anderson is new coming in so it felt like a great fit with me being a freshman who is willing to grow with him. They are big on working hard on and off the court and I feel like they are going to do great things for the St. John’s program in these upcoming years.”
Q: What was Mike Anderson’s message to you when he first hit you up?
A: “Mike Anderson told me he likes to get the best out of his kids and I have to come in with the mentality of doing whatever it takes to win. They know there is going to be ups and downs because everything is new and because I’m a freshman. As long as I’m focused on getting better, the sky is the limit.”
Q: What excites you the most about this opportunity?
A: “What excites me the most about this opportunity is being in New York and the great St. John’s fans. I want them to know that I’m going to give it all that I got even if it’s not always with scoring. I’m going to give it my all every game and pray that they can stay with me and support me through the ups and downs.”
